There is no staging system for mesothelioma. Peritoneal mesothelioma is an aggressive disease that is difficult to treat.
Surgery - Surgery is not possible in Peritoneal Mesothelioma patients, as the tumor spreads throughout the abdomen. However, Peritoneal Mesothelioma can be performed surgically to remove all tumors by cleansing the lining of the stomach.
Chemotherapy - Chemotherapy can be an option for people with peritoneal mesothelioma. Intreperitoneal chemotherapy is often used for Peritomeal Mesothelioma chemotherapy.
Radiation therapy - Radiation therapy does not always work well for mesothelioma. This is not the main treatment for peritoneal mesothelioma, but is sometimes used to relieve symptoms caused by advanced peritoneal mesothelioma (palliative radiation therapy).

The symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma are not always unique to the disease, thus diagnosing peritoneal mesothelioma requires more than a symptom observation. Most of the symptoms associated with accompanying abdominal mesothelioma, other medical conditions, are often less serious. Most diagnoses of peritoneal mesothelioma are made when malignancy in the stage of benefit and diagnosis, alone, takes an average of four months.
